01. Inspired by Nature
We use algorithms that mimic processes from the natural world to create vibrant and captivating designs.
Most of our designs are cellular automata (CA), created by repeatedly applying a set of instructions to generate a row or plane of pixels.
Because the world around us is also generated by the continual application of simple rules, CA can have uncanny resemblance to objects found in nature. The striking patterns remain easy on the eyes as they are reminiscent of natural phenomena such as plants, mineral formations, and weather patterns.
Some theorists believe that CA are integral to understanding the nature of reality — that they are the fundamental building blocks of the universe itself!
This shell (Oliva porphyria) is a classic example of clear CA patterning.
