OMG was created by
brother and sister,
Jules + Chloe Bolton.

We bring together our different skills of math and coding (Jules) and graphic design (Chloe) and our shared love for interior design, textiles, and the beauty of nature that inspired us to create these mesmerizing and dynamic patterns. We can’t wait to see our products in people’s homes!

Applications for OMG Designs

  • Tiling

OMG designs can be used for bold tiling projects. Many of our designs feature an organic quality, reminiscent of the natural patterns found in marble and stone. Our tiling motifs offer a unique solution to the limitations of these natural materials, providing greater versatility in form, color, scale, and more!

  • Textiles

Because our designs repeat seamlessly, they are optimal for textile applications, from furniture upholstery to fashion design.

  • Wallcoverings

Our generative designs can span large widths without repeats for a truly custom wallcovering, or we can create wallpaper-like repetitions for a seamlessly repeating design.

  • Acoustic Solutions

Beautiful and functional designs for sound-absorbing panels, perfect for offices, studios, and other noise-sensitive environments.

  • Packaging + Branding

Our custom patterns create memorable visual experiences, ideal for impactful brand assets and packaging.

  • Custom Collaborations

We welcome collaborations for custom projects with architects, designers, and brands to create unique, impactful pieces. Our generative designs allow us to produce exclusive, one-of-a-kind patterns tailored to your vision.

What’s Special about OMG Patterns?

01. Inspired by Nature

We use algorithms that mimic processes from the natural world to create vibrant and captivating designs.

Most of our designs are cellular automata (CA), created by repeatedly applying a set of instructions to generate a row or plane of pixels.

Because the world around us is also generated by the continual application of simple rules, CA can have uncanny resemblance to objects found in nature. The striking patterns remain easy on the eyes as they are reminiscent of natural phenomena such as plants, mineral formations, and weather patterns.

Some theorists believe that CA are integral to understanding the nature of reality — that they are the fundamental building blocks of the universe itself!

This shell (Oliva porphyria) is a classic example of clear CA patterning.

02. Zoomable Patterns

The same design can be magnified to reveal distinct patterns coexisting at different scales.

These three patterns all come from the same image.

03. Seamless Design

Built into the code that generates a portion of our designs, is the function of seamless repetition. These designs can be stitched together horizontally.

04. Limitless Pattern Variations

Our images are procedurally generated in such a way that they can be created in near infinite variety. While this presentation highlights overarching styles, we’ve created many more patterns and can produce unique designs to meet a wide variety of custom specifications.

05. Truly Unique Aesthetic

While these types of patterns have been studied within the mathematics community, there have been very few applications in the world of design. We are excited to bring the beauty of these patterns into the homes of design lovers!
